TINGALPA RESERVE

Public BBQ

Tingalpa Reserve presents itself as one of those charmingly honest Australian spots that doesn't pretend to be more than it is. The recently revamped facilities include decent BBQ areas and shaded picnic tables, plus a proper fish descaling station that suggests someone actually thought about what people do here. The boardwalk over the creek offers peaceful moments, though you'll want to pack the Aerogard – and I mean seriously pack it. The midges here have apparently formed their own welcoming committee, complete with a membership drive that involves your exposed skin. The water access via the concrete ramp is brilliantly convenient, though it transforms into a slip-and-slide comedy show at low tide. A pair of entrepreneurial birds have set up permanent residence at the fishing dock, clearly running some sort of protection racket for fish scraps. It's a solid spot for kayaking, fishing, or just absorbing some Queensland tranquillity, provided you come prepared for biological warfare against the local insect population.
